A BOUT XCEL Ed D’Ascoli founded Xcel in 1982, working from the bedroom of his Sunset Beach house. D’Ascoli found no shortage of inspiration from the world-class performances on display at his doorstep; and the opportunity to create and to connect high-performance products with the athletes who demanded them was irresistible. Xcel’s passionate focus on product development would become the defining characteristic of the brand. Developing wetsuits in Hawaii came naturally to D’Ascoli, having grown up surfing New Jersey’s chilly Atlantic coasts. While temperate Hawaii waters rarely call for any more than 2mm neoprene, Sunset Beach and other North Shore breaks are incredibly challenging and demand world-class products for maximum performance. Drawing upon his enthusiasm and experience helping establish Victory Wetsuits (Japan) as an international brand, D’Ascoli quickly laid the foundations of a core wetsuit company that would revolutionize the industry and push the cutting edge of material and design development. After penetrating the surfing market, Xcel rode its rapid growth into expanding its offerings and found wider audiences across the ocean. Today, surf, dive, UV protection, paddle, and wake combine to form the core of Xcel’s brand appeal. In 1990, D’Ascoli moved Xcel from Sunset Beach into its present headquarters in Haleiwa. Soon after, to better service Xcel retailers on the mainland, the brand opened a warehouse in California. This West Coast location facilitated Xcel’s entry into the recreational diving market. Using successful features and vast product knowledge of its successful surf and military wetsuits, Xcel quickly raised the bar for dive wetsuit design. Xcel’s reputation for exceptional product quality is a clear result of an unwavering dedication to research, development, and design innovation. With tropical to cold-water products for men, women, and youth, the brand stresses performance: maximum stretch and durability, sealed-seam construction, and a fit that feels custom-made every time. Xcel Men's Infiniti 3/2 Fullsuit IDEAL WATER TEMP: 55˚ - 64˚ F DESIGN – Engineered fit system which fits like a second skin. A semi-dry zipper with a magnetic closure to keep water out and back knee flex grooves that prevent bunching. CONSTRUCTION – Triple glued and blindstitched seams provide a water-tight seam construction. Foam edges are glued multiple times creating air/water-tight seal. FusionX tape on the seams applied by a machined heat-pressure process that bonds tape directly to suit ensuring maximum seam durability while eliminating the need for excess glue. Water-based glue provides premium durability and bonds. MATERIALS – Featuring all-new Channel Flex Exterior for a weightless feel and unrestricted warmth. Radiant Rebound, Xcel's metallic technology, in the upper body that utilizes a metal lining under the textile that blocks cold temps from penetrating the outer layer and reflects heat generated within the wetsuit back towards the body, keeping you in a constant state of warmth. A plush Thermolite lower body with 100% Ultra Flex. Nanoprene Lite Japanese Limestone neoprene is lighter, warmer, and softer than the average neoprene. Soft and anti-fade dope-dye yarn creates a watertight seal to prevent flushing. Channel Flex Exterior Xcel's newest material technology. Completely reinvents the wetsuit experience. This exterior lightweight, hydrophobic gridded material breaks up tension by reducing fiber and water weight, allowing a surfer to have a complete free range of motion. Limestone Neoprene Xcel uses earth-minded limestone to replace processed petrochemicals in our neoprene, reducing dependence on petroleum and the harmful practice of processing it. I like the fit and the quality of the suitI’ve been surfing for 25 years and have been an instructor for 6. Being that I’m in the water for 12 months out of the year, I burn through suits and always have trouble finding a good fit for my body type. Xcel Infiniti for 3’s and 4’s is perfect. In the winter I use the Drylock 5/4. You cannot go wrong with Xcel. They’re flexible, warm, and durable. It's trimmed a little bit tight in the diameter of the arms, and slightly loose in the ankles, but other than than that it's simple entry and exit with the chest-zip. VERY warm and flexible neoprene in the core, leg panels are warm too. The placement of the logos seemed strange, or at least took a little getting used to but that's cosmetic, not functional. This is an all-around great basic wetsuit that'll get you in the water and surfing comfortably.Toasty in 60 degree water. New ankle stretch makes it easier to slip the suit off after your session.Fits as described in the charts. It is a skin tight fit as it should be and initial time putting it on can be a challenge but once you get past that it feels super comfortable.
